Anambra Kidnapping and Armed Robbery: Four Arrested by Police
Police in Anambra State have apprehended four men suspected to be part of an armed robbery and kidnapping syndicate. The arrests were executed by members of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, in the early hours of September 1, 2025, in Amansea, Awka. During the operation, police recovered two pump-action guns and nine live cartridges. The breakthrough followed credible intelligence regarding a kidnapping case where a ransom of five million naira was paid before the victim was released.
The suspects, identified as Chigozie Igboekwu aged 31, Odumegwu Chibuike aged 23, Jonah Awudu aged 40, and Okechukwu Nwari aged 33, reportedly confessed to their involvement. According to their statements, they conspired on August 12, 2025, to abduct two individuals in Amansea. The victims were held in a bush at Ugwuoba in Enugu State for two days before being freed after the ransom was delivered.
The Commissioner of Police for Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the officers involved in the operation for their dedication. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and rooting out criminal networks in the state. The suspects are expected to face prosecution once investigations are concluded, while further efforts are underway to apprehend other members of the syndicate.
