Akwa Ibom Police Corporal Kidnap Sentence: Officer, Bus Conductor Get Death Penalty
A corporal of the Nigeria Police Force and a commercial bus conductor have been sentenced to d3ath by a High Court in Akwa Ibom State over the kidnap of a secondary school vice principal.
The court found the two men guilty of abducting the education official and demanding ransom from the victim’s family. According to court proceedings, the incident occurred after the vice principal was reportedly trailed and forcibly taken to an undisclosed location.
Prosecutors told the court that the convicts conspired to carry out the abduction and kept the victim in captivity while negotiating ransom payments. Evidence presented during the trial reportedly linked both men directly to the crime.
In delivering judgment, the presiding judge held that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt. The court ruled that the gravity of the offence and the circumstances surrounding the kidnap warranted the maximum penalty under the law.
