Macklemore Dropped From Ed Sheeran Tour After “Free Palestine” Statements
Macklemore has been removed from the remaining U.S. dates of Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour after his outspoken support for Palestine during an onstage appearance sparked controversy.
The rapper was scheduled to perform as an opening act for Sheeran during the U.S. leg of the tour. However, the remaining dates will now continue without him after several venues reportedly said they would not allow concerts to proceed with Macklemore on the lineup.
The decision followed comments Macklemore made during a September 4 performance at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
Macklemore Says “Free Palestine” on Stage
During his performance, Macklemore addressed the audience and spoke about the situation involving Palestinians in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
He led the crowd in saying “Free Palestine” and said he wanted people affected by the conflict to know that they had not been forgotten.
Macklemore also displayed images connected to the devastation in Gaza during his performance of “Hind’s Hall,” his protest song inspired by pro-Palestinian demonstrations. The song has become one of his most visible forms of political expression.
