Anambra Poll: INEC Extends PVC Collection Ahead of Governorship Election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced an extension of the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) collection period in Anambra State, ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.
The extension, according to a statement by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), aims to ensure that no eligible voter is disenfranchised due to time constraints or logistical challenges. INEC said the decision followed reports of large turnouts at local government collection centers across the state.
Initially scheduled to end this week, PVC collection will now continue for an additional seven days, allowing residents to pick up their cards at ward and local government offices between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily, including weekends.
INEC emphasized that the extension is part of its broader commitment to inclusivity and credible elections, urging voters who have yet to collect their PVCs to take advantage of the new window.
“We have seen impressive enthusiasm from the people of Anambra. This extension is to give everyone a fair chance to exercise their civic rights during the election,” the REC stated.
Civil society groups and election observers have commended INEC’s decision, describing it as a positive step toward improving voter participation and reducing apathy in the state.
The Anambra governorship election is expected to be highly competitive, with security, voter turnout, and technology deployment among the major factors shaping the electoral process.
