Bandits attack Kwara community
A fresh wave of violence has hit a farming community in Kwara State after armed bandits attacked and killed two rice farmers before abducting a teenage girl. The incident occurred in the Eruku area, a community that has faced repeated assaults from gunmen in recent months.
Residents said the attackers stormed the area suddenly, firing shots and forcing people to flee into nearby bushes. The two farmers were shot dead on their fields, while the teenager was taken away during the chaos. The gunmen escaped through forest paths that connect the community to neighbouring areas.
Villagers described the attack as terrifying and said the region has become increasingly unsafe. Many expressed fear that the continuous raids may cripple farming activities and deepen food insecurity. Community leaders are appealing for urgent intervention from security agencies, insisting that the people can no longer endure the escalating violence.
As of now, the Kwara State Police Command has not released an official statement, but local authorities have confirmed that efforts are underway to trace the attackers and rescue the abducted girl.
