Benue Gov Dissolves Lobi Stars Board
Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has announced the dissolution of the board of Lobi Stars Football Club, citing the need for a comprehensive restructuring aimed at restoring the club’s glory and ensuring better management efficiency.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula, who said the decision followed a review of the club’s performance and administrative operations over the past season.
According to the statement, the dissolution takes immediate effect, and all members of the former board have been directed to hand over club property and financial records to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youths, Sports, and Creativity.
“The Governor appreciates the outgoing board for their service and contributions to the club but believes that a new management structure is necessary to reposition Lobi Stars for excellence and sustainability,” the statement read.
Governor Alia reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to revitalizing sports development in Benue State, pledging to invest in youth empowerment through football and grassroots talent discovery.
He also disclosed plans to reconstitute a new board made up of professionals with proven experience in sports administration, finance, and youth development to ensure that Lobi Stars competes effectively in both domestic and continental competitions.
Lobi Stars, one of Nigeria’s most prominent football clubs, has struggled in recent seasons, with inconsistent performances in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and internal management disputes reportedly affecting team morale.
Fans and stakeholders have welcomed the Governor’s decision, describing it as a “timely intervention” to rescue the club from administrative stagnation and restore its competitive edge.
