Dana Eden Found Dead in Athens Hotel While Filming Apple TV Tehran
ATHENS, Greece — Dana Eden, a prominent Israeli television producer and co-creator of the Emmy-winning spy thriller Tehran, has been found dead in a hotel room in central Athens while overseeing the production of the series’ fourth season, police and media reports confirmed on Monday.
The 52-year-old was discovered unresponsive on Sunday after her brother, who had been unable to reach her, went to her hotel and found her body. Greek authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death and have ordered an autopsy to determine the precise cause.
Greek police officials told international media that the case is currently being treated as a suspected suicide. Pills were found at the scene, and forensic investigators have been gathering evidence, including hotel security footage and testimony from staff, as part of the probe. Bruises were also reportedly noted on parts of her body as investigators work to establish a clear timeline of events.
Eden was in Athens for the filming of Tehran’s fourth season, which has been shot in Greece due to the show’s narrative demands and production arrangements. The espionage series — co-created by Eden alongside Moshe Zonder and Maor Kohn — first premiered in 2020 on Israeli broadcaster Kan 11 and later reached global audiences on Apple TV+, earning critical acclaim and an International Emmy Award for Best Drama Series in 2021.
Her production company, Donna and Shula Productions, issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over her sudden passing and firmly dismissing circulating speculation about foul play or politically motivated causes. “Rumours regarding a criminal or nationalistic-related death are not true and are unfounded,” the company said, calling for sensitivity and respect for Eden’s family, friends and colleagues during this difficult period.
Israeli media and public broadcasting partners also paid tribute to Eden’s legacy, highlighting her significant impact on Israeli television and her role in bringing the country’s storytelling to international stages. Officials and colleagues described her as a respected industry figure whose creativity and leadership helped shape numerous acclaimed productions over more than three decades.
