Delta Governor’s Aide Ossai Criticises Chioma Over Outfit Worn to Grammys
A media aide to the Delta State governor, Ossai Ovie Success, has sparked online controversy after publicly criticising Chioma Adeleke, wife of Nigerian music star Davido, over the outfit she wore to the Grammy Awards.
In a post shared on social media, Ossai berated Chioma’s appearance on the Grammy red carpet, describing her outfit as too revealing. He questioned the appropriateness of the attire and suggested that married women, particularly those married to high-profile public figures, should dress more conservatively.
The comments quickly drew reactions across social media platforms, with many Nigerians criticizing Ossai for what they described as unwarranted policing of a woman’s body and fashion choices. Critics accused the governor’s aide of sexism and hypocrisy, arguing that Chioma’s outfit was in line with international red carpet fashion standards.
Supporters of Chioma defended her, pointing out that the Grammy Awards is a global entertainment event where bold and expressive fashion is common. Others noted that Chioma has consistently maintained a relatively private lifestyle despite her celebrity status and should not be subjected to public shaming.
Some social media users also questioned why a government official would focus on celebrity fashion rather than governance and public service, calling the remarks a distraction from more pressing national issues.
As of the time of reporting, Chioma has not responded publicly to Ossai’s comments. Davido has also remained silent on the matter. Ossai, however, doubled down on his position in subsequent posts, insisting that his comments were based on personal values and cultural expectations.
The incident has reignited broader conversations around women’s autonomy, celebrity scrutiny, cultural norms, and the role of public officials in social commentary. It also highlights the intense public attention faced by Nigerian celebrities and their families, especially during international events like the Grammys.
