Fake FRSC Officer Arrested in Kano for Motorcycle Snatching
Kano, Nigeria — The Kano State Police Command has arrested a man who allegedly posed as an officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to snatch motorcycles from unsuspecting riders in different parts of the state.
The suspect, whose identity is being withheld pending further investigation, reportedly used a fake FRSC uniform and forged identification materials to deceive commercial motorcyclists and private riders before dispossessing them of their motorcycles.
According to police sources, the impostor would approach riders under the pretence of enforcing road safety regulations. He allegedly:
- Flagged down motorcycles at isolated spots
- Claimed their documentation was incomplete
- Threatened arrest or impoundment
- Ordered riders to follow him to an “office”
- Diverted them to quiet areas before escaping with their motorcycles.
Investigators say the suspect had “perfected” the act to appear legitimate, even mimicking FRSC communication styles to gain victims’ trust.
The spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command confirmed the arrest, noting that officers acted swiftly after receiving multiple complaints from victims.
He stated that:
“The suspect was tracked and apprehended while attempting to snatch another motorcycle. He was found wearing a fake FRSC uniform and carrying forged documents.”
The spokesperson added that preliminary findings point to a one-man syndicate, though police are not ruling out the involvement of other accomplices.
Several motorcycles believed to have been stolen through the impersonation scheme have reportedly been recovered as part of the ongoing investigation. Police say efforts are underway to identify owners and return the items.
The Federal Road Safety Corps, Kano Sector Command, distanced itself from the suspect, emphasizing that the public must remain vigilant.
The Corps warned residents to always demand:
- Proper identification
- Verification from nearby FRSC offices
- Documented receipts for any impoundment or penalty
They reiterated that legitimate FRSC officers do not operate alone at isolated spots and never seize motorcycles without due process.
The arrest has prompted calls for increased awareness as cases of impersonation — involving the Army, Police, Immigration, and FRSC — continue to rise across parts of Nigeria.
Security experts warn that impersonators often exploit:

Police confirm the suspect will be charged with:
