Gunmen Attack Tiv Community in Taraba, Leaving Three Dead as Tensions Rise
At least three people have been confirmed dead following an attack by suspected gunmen on a Tiv community in Taraba State, sparking fresh concerns over insecurity and communal violence in the area.
The attack reportedly occurred in the early hours of the day when armed assailants stormed the community, firing sporadically and forcing residents to flee for safety. Witnesses said the sudden assault threw the area into panic as men, women, and children ran into nearby bushes and neighboring villages to escape the violence.
Local sources confirmed that three residents lost their lives during the attack, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries. Homes and property were also said to have been damaged, although the full extent of destruction could not be independently verified at the time of filing this report.
Community leaders described the incident as devastating, noting that the Tiv people in the area have continued to live in fear due to recurring security threats.
