Husband Flees as Oyo NSCDC Apprehends Housewife Over Alleged Human Trafficking
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Oyo State has arrested a housewife over allegations of human trafficking, while her husband reportedly fled the scene to avoid arrest.
According to the NSCDC, the suspect was apprehended following credible intelligence linking her to activities involving the illegal movement and exploitation of individuals. Operatives moved in on the suspect’s residence, where she was arrested, but her husband reportedly escaped before security personnel could detain him.
Officials said preliminary investigations revealed that the woman was allegedly involved in recruiting and transporting victims under false pretenses. The victims, whose identities have not been disclosed, were reportedly promised better opportunities before being subjected to exploitation.
The NSCDC stated that the rescued victims have been taken into protective custody, where they are receiving care and counseling, while further investigations continue. The agency also confirmed that efforts are underway to track down the fleeing husband, who is believed to be connected to the alleged trafficking operation.
Speaking on the arrest, the Oyo State Command of the NSCDC reaffirmed its commitment to combating human trafficking and other forms of organized crime. The agency urged members of the public to provide useful information that could assist in apprehending suspects involved in trafficking networks.
Human trafficking remains a serious challenge in Nigeria, with security agencies and advocacy groups intensifying efforts to dismantle syndicates and protect vulnerable persons, especially women and children.
The arrested suspect is expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, while authorities continue to pursue other individuals linked to the alleged crime.
