Kano Community Raises Alarm Over Increasing Bandit Attacks

Residents of Kabo Local Government Area in Kano State have raised the alarm over the rising wave of bandit attacks, calling on security agencies and the state government to take urgent action to protect lives and property.

According to community leaders, the once-peaceful area has come under frequent assaults by armed bandits, who invade villages, abduct residents, and loot valuables, leaving many in fear and uncertainty.

Speaking to reporters, a local elder, Malam Sani Adamu, said the attacks have intensified in recent weeks, forcing several families to flee their homes.

According to community leaders, the once-peaceful area has come under frequent assaults by armed bandits, who invade villages, abduct residents, and loot valuables, leaving many in fear and uncertainty.

Speaking to reporters, a local elder, Malam Sani Adamu, said the attacks have intensified in recent weeks, forcing several families to flee their homes.

“We are no longer safe. These criminals come at night on motorcycles, shooting sporadically and kidnapping our people for ransom. Many farmers can’t even go to their farms anymore,” Adamu lamented.

Another resident, Hauwa Musa, described the situation as “terrifying,” noting that the bandits often target women and children, demanding heavy ransoms that villagers can hardly afford.

“They took my brother two weeks ago, and we are struggling to raise money to secure his release. The government needs to intervene before we all abandon this place,” she said.

Community members accused security operatives of arriving late or not responding at all during attacks, urging the state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to strengthen patrols and improve coordination among local vigilante groups and police formations.

A spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed awareness of the recent incidents and assured that reinforcement teams have been deployed to the affected areas to restore calm.

“We are working closely with community leaders to enhance intelligence gathering and ensure the culprits are apprehended,” Kiyawa stated.

Meanwhile, civil society groups and traditional rulers have called for sustained collaboration between communities and security agencies, warning that the growing insecurity could disrupt farming and worsen the state’s economic situation if left unchecked.
