Kanu no-case submission dismissal
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the legal team of its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu, have rejected the Federal High Court’s decision to dismiss his no-case submission in the ongoing treason trial.
The court, sitting in Abuja, ruled that Kanu must enter his defence on charges bordering on terrorism and incitement. But Kanu’s lead counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, insisted the charges lack merit, describing the ruling as a miscarriage of justice.
“We strongly disagree with the court’s position. The evidence presented by the prosecution does not establish any case against our client,” Ejiofor said.
IPOB also condemned the ruling, alleging it was politically motivated and designed to prolong Kanu’s detention. The group urged international human rights bodies to intervene.
The case has continued to draw national and international attention, with concerns over its implications for human rights, freedom of speech, and national security.
