Kidnapped Kebbi Schoolgirls Regain Their Freedom
All 24 schoolgirls abducted from a boarding school in the Maga area of Kebbi State have regained their freedom. The girls were taken during an attack in which armed men stormed the school, killed the vice principal, and fled with 25 students. One girl had earlier escaped on the day of the incident, leaving 24 in captivity.
According to government officials, the schoolgirls were rescued through coordinated efforts by security forces who had been tracking the kidnappers since the attack. The children were recovered in good health and have been reunited with their families. Authorities also stated that no ransom was paid during the operation.
President Bola Tinubu expressed relief at the development, praising the security agencies for their work. He said the rescue should encourage further action to protect schools and vulnerable communities across the country. Kebbi State officials called the release a major victory but stressed that more must be done to prevent similar attacks in the region.
The abduction had sparked nationwide concern, drawing attention to the ongoing threat posed by armed groups targeting students in northern Nigeria. With the girls now safe, families and community leaders have urged the government to maintain stronger security measures around schools.
