Moroccan police have arrested 19 individuals—18 Senegalese supporters and one Algerian national—following violent clashes that erupted during the chaotic conclusion of the AFCON final.

According to Moroccan authorities, the arrests were made after several incidents of vandalism, property destruction, and aggressive conduct linked to groups identified as football hooligans. Police say the suspects were involved in confrontations that injured multiple spectators and disrupted post-match activities.

A spokesperson for the Moroccan national police said the arrests were part of a broader crackdown on violent fan behavior following the tournament’s conclusion.
“We will not tolerate acts of hooliganism that endanger lives and damage property,” the spokesperson stated.
He confirmed that investigations are ongoing to identify additional individuals involved in the violence, and more arrests could follow.
The incident has sparked diplomatic concern, particularly with the detainment of 18 Senegalese nationals.
Senegal’s football federation has reportedly contacted Moroccan authorities seeking clarity on the charges and the condition of their supporters.
