NAMA tariff hike airlines oppose
The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has proposed a hike in service tariffs, a move that has triggered stiff opposition from local airlines.
NAMA explained that the adjustment is necessary to cover rising operational costs, maintain safety infrastructure, and align with global aviation standards. According to the agency, the new tariff structure would help sustain critical air navigation services across the country.
However, airline operators have rejected the plan, warning that higher tariffs will increase the cost of operations, raise ticket prices, and further burden passengers already grappling with inflation. The carriers argued that instead of tariff increases, government should provide relief measures to support the struggling aviation sector.
Industry analysts note that while NAMA requires more revenue to modernize equipment and maintain safety, any hike must be carefully balanced to avoid worsening the financial strain on airlines.
Talks between NAMA and stakeholders are ongoing, with the Ministry of Aviation expected to intervene in search of a middle ground.
