Natasha defamation case court jurisdiction
Politician and activist Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has strongly criticized the Federal Government as she challenges the jurisdiction of a court hearing a defamation case filed against her.
At the latest sitting, Natasha’s legal team argued that the court lacked proper jurisdiction to entertain the matter, describing the suit as politically motivated and a deliberate attempt to silence her.
“This case is nothing more than an abuse of the judicial process. It is designed to intimidate my client and distract her from her political and humanitarian engagements,” her lawyer told reporters after proceedings.
Natasha, who has been vocal about governance, accountability, and women’s representation in politics, insisted that she would not be intimidated by what she called “frivolous charges.”
The case, which has drawn public attention, underscores the growing debate over freedom of expression in Nigeria and the use of defamation suits as tools to muzzle critics.
Observers say the court’s decision on jurisdiction could set a significant precedent for similar cases involving politicians and activists in the country.
