“No Scripture Forbids Tattoos” — Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo Replys to Critics
Popular Nigerian pastor and relationship coach, Kingsley Okonkwo, has responded to critics who questioned his stance on tattoos, insisting that there is no scripture in the Bible that outrightly forbids them.
Pastor Okonkwo made the clarification while addressing comments and debates that followed discussions around tattoos and Christianity. According to him, many believers often misinterpret or misuse certain Bible passages to condemn practices without proper context.
The clergyman explained that the commonly quoted Old Testament verse used to argue against tattoos was part of the Mosaic Law given specifically to the children of Israel and not a universal commandment for all Christians. He stressed that Christians are under the New Covenant, which focuses more on the condition of the heart rather than external appearances.
Okonkwo noted that having tattoos does not determine a person’s spirituality or relationship with God. He argued that character, values, and love for God and others matter far more than physical markings on the body.
His comments sparked mixed reactions online. While many social media users praised him for addressing what they described as religious hypocrisy and unnecessary judgment, others disagreed, insisting that tattoos still go against Christian values and the concept of the body as God’s temple.
The pastor, however, maintained that believers should focus on core Christian teachings such as love, righteousness, and service, rather than policing personal choices that are not explicitly condemned in scripture.
He also cautioned Christians against elevating personal opinions to the level of doctrine, urging believers to study the Bible carefully and avoid condemning others based on cultural or personal biases.
