Oyo Divorce Case: Man Tells Court Wife Set House Ablaze to Roast Him Alive
An Oyo State court has been presented with a dramatic Oyo divorce case in which a man is seeking the dissolution of his marriage, alleging that his wife set their house ablaze in an attempt to harm him.
The petitioner, whose name was not immediately disclosed, appeared before a customary court in Ibadan where he accused his wife of being troublesome and engaging in behaviour that made the marriage unbearable. Among his allegations, he claimed that she deliberately set their home on fire during a dispute in what he described as an attempt to “roast him alive.”
According to his testimony, tensions in the marriage had been escalating over time, with frequent quarrels and misunderstandings. He further alleged that his wife’s actions posed a threat to his safety, prompting him to seek legal intervention and formally request the dissolution of the union.
The man also accused his wife of infidelity and persistent misconduct, stating that the relationship had broken down irretrievably. He told the court that he no longer felt secure living under the same roof and pleaded with the judge to grant his request for separation in the interest of his personal safety.
In her response, the wife reportedly denied some of the allegations, contesting the version of events presented by her husband. She, however, acknowledged that the marriage had been marked by ongoing disputes. Details of her defence were not fully disclosed during the initial hearing.
Court officials indicated that the matter may require further examination, including the presentation of witnesses and possible investigation into the alleged fire incident. No confirmation was immediately available regarding police involvement or any formal criminal charges connected to the alleged arson.
