How PDP’s Zoning Move for 2027 Could Influence Obi, Jonathan, and Amaechi’s Decisions
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has labeled the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) decision to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South as a strategic maneuver to lure prominent southern politicians, including Peter Obi, Goodluck Jonathan, and Rotimi Amaechi.
ADC National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on August 26, 2025, criticized the PDP and the All Progressives Congress (APC) for prioritizing political strategies over Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges, noting that such early zoning decisions, made two years before the election, suggest an underlying agenda.
He argued that the PDP’s move is a calculated effort to attract these figures, who are also associated with the ADC coalition, to bolster its chances against the APC’s likely candidate, President Bola Tinubu.
Abdullahi emphasized that the ADC remains focused on grassroots mobilization and has not yet decided on zoning its own ticket, maintaining that Obi, Jonathan, Amaechi, and Atiku Abubakar have equal opportunities to secure its nomination.
Meanwhile, political analyst Jideofor Adibe cautioned Obi to be wary of the ADC coalition, citing Atiku’s northern candidacy as a potential threat to southern aspirants like Obi and Amaechi
