Police Apprehends Notorious Thugs Wanted for Murder of Vigilante Member in Niger
The Niger State Police Command has arrested a notorious thug who had been declared wanted in connection with the m8rder of a vigilante member in the state.
According to police authorities, the suspect had been on the run for several months following the fatal attack on the local security operative. The incident, which reportedly occurred during a confrontation between members of a vigilante group and suspected criminal elements, led to heightened tension within the affected community.
Police sources disclosed that the vigilante member was attacked during a routine patrol aimed at curbing rising criminal activities in the area. The assailants allegedly ambushed the team, and in the process, the vigilante operative sustained fatal injuries. He was later confirmed de@d at a medical facility.
Following the incident, the police launched a manhunt for those responsible. The arrested suspect was said to be a known thug with a history of alleged involvement in violent activities within the state. Intelligence gathering and coordinated operations by security operatives eventually led to his capture.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in Niger State stated that the suspect was apprehended during a targeted raid carried out by operatives acting on credible information. He added that efforts are ongoing to track down other accomplices believed to have participated in the attack.
“The suspect has been arrested and is currently in police custody. Investigation is ongoing, and he will be charged to court upon conclusion of preliminary findings,” the statement read.
The arrest has been welcomed by residents of the affected community, many of whom had expressed concerns over security and called for justice following the vigilante member’s death. Community leaders commended the police for their efforts and urged authorities to ensure that those responsible are prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Meanwhile, the body of the slain vigilante member had earlier been laid to rest amid emotional scenes, as family members and colleagues described him as dedicated and courageous in the fight against crime.
