Police Intercept Truck Carrying Suspected Explosives in Oyo, Arrest Driver
Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria — The Oyo State Police Command has intercepted a truck conveying suspected explosive materials during a stop-and-search operation in Saki, in the Oke Ogun area of the state, and arrested the driver, police confirmed late Sunday.
According to a statement by the police spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the operation was carried out following credible intelligence that led to the interception of the vehicle and its contents. The driver and the materials suspected to be explosive devices were taken into custody by officers of the command.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, has directed a comprehensive investigation into the incident to determine the nature of the materials and their intended use. Specialized units, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Unit, were deployed to the scene to secure and examine the seized items.
Police officials said the driver is cooperating with investigators as authorities carry out forensic analysis of the suspected explosives and gather more evidence as part of ongoing inquiries.
The command reassured residents that there is no cause for panic and emphasized that the situation is under control while security forces work to unravel all circumstances surrounding the discovery.
This development highlights continued efforts by security agencies in southwestern Nigeria to prevent the trafficking and potential misuse of dangerous materials, as part of broader efforts to enhance public safety and security.
