Rihanna Loses Around $36 Million Following Collapse of Luxury-Fashion Venture with LVMH
Pop icon and business mogul Rihanna has reportedly incurred a loss of approximately $36 million after the failure of her luxury-fashion label, launched in partnership with the French conglomerate LVMH. The brand, dubbed Fenty (registered under “Project Loud France”), was introduced in 2019 and represented an ambitious expansion of Rihanna’s business empire into high-end ready-to-wear fashion.
According to records from her UK-based entity, Denim UK Holdings, the amount reflects her investment effort in the brand alongside LVMH, which also contributed roughly €30 million to the venture. The label, however, struggled to gain traction and was officially wound down in 2021. The collapse was attributed in part to the global pandemic’s disruptions, including travel restrictions that impeded Rihanna’s hands-on involvement with European ateliers and Italian manufacturing houses. The luxury price point of items—such as a padded denim jacket priced near $1,000 or a corseted dress around $810—was also cited as a barrier to broader customer uptake.
Despite the setback, Rihanna remains a billionaire, thanks to the enduring success of her cosmetics brand (Fenty Beauty) and her lingerie and apparel line Savage X Fenty. Industry analysts view the $36 million loss not as a fatal blow but as a strategic refocus—Rihanna and her team chose to concentrate on the product lines with stronger consumer traction.
The collapse highlights how even top celebrity-led ventures backed by major luxury houses can falter when market fit, timing, and operational constraints converge. For Rihanna, the episode serves as a financial lesson, but it is likely to be a minor note in a broader, largely successful entrepreneurial narrative.
