SEC Nigeria capital market financial independence
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has urged Nigerians to take advantage of the capital market as a pathway to achieving financial independence and long-term wealth creation.
Speaking at a financial literacy forum in Abuja, SEC Director-General Dr. Emomotimi Agama said the Nigerian capital market offers diverse opportunities for both individuals and businesses through investments in equities, bonds, mutual funds, and other securities.
“The capital market is not only for the elite. Every Nigerian, including small savers, can build wealth and secure their financial future through disciplined participation,” Agama noted.
The SEC boss also stressed the need for investors to avoid Ponzi schemes and instead explore regulated products in the market, which guarantee safety, transparency, and potential returns.
Financial experts say greater participation in the capital market could help deepen Nigeria’s economy by channeling more funds into productive sectors, reducing reliance on bank credit, and boosting financial inclusion.
