Germany arrests Hamas suspects attack plot
German authorities have arrested three suspected members of Hamas accused of plotting attacks against Jewish institutions in Europe, officials confirmed on Sunday.
The Federal Prosecutor’s Office said the men, whose identities were not disclosed, were detained in coordinated raids across Berlin and North Rhine-Westphalia. Investigators allege they were working under directives from Hamas operatives abroad and had begun scouting potential targets.
“The suspects are strongly believed to be part of an international network planning acts of violence against Jewish communities,” the prosecutor’s office stated.
German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser praised security agencies for foiling what could have been a “serious terrorist threat,” stressing that the government would not tolerate extremist plots on its soil.
The arrests come amid heightened tensions in Europe, where security around synagogues and Jewish community centers has been tightened following the Israel-Gaza conflict.
The suspects are expected to face charges of membership in a foreign terrorist organization and conspiracy to commit acts of violence.
