Transformer vandal electrocuted at Borno varsity
A suspected vandal was electrocuted while attempting to tamper with an electrical transformer at the University of Maiduguri, Borno State.
Eyewitnesses said the man was found lifeless near the transformer site after an apparent attempt to strip cables. His body was discovered by security personnel during routine patrols on the campus.
University authorities confirmed the incident, noting that the suspect had gained unauthorized access to the facility at night. They added that the matter has been reported to the police for proper investigation and possible identification of the deceased.
Officials of the Borno State Electricity Board warned against acts of vandalism, stressing that tampering with high-voltage equipment poses grave dangers and also disrupts power supply to critical facilities.
The incident has reignited calls for tighter security around electrical installations in the state, as repeated vandalism has been linked to blackouts and increased maintenance costs.
