Troops Neutralize Six Terrorists, Rescue Kidnapped Girl in Zamfara Forest Offensive
Zamfara State, Nigeria — Nigerian troops have neutralised six suspected terrorists and rescued a kidnapped underage victim during a robust military offensive in the forests of Zamfara State, military authorities said on Sunday.
The operation, conducted by the 8 Division Garrison Strike Force under Operation FANSAN YAMMA Sector 2, took place in the notorious Sububu Forest within the Maradun Local Government Area. It formed part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist and bandit networks that have long disrupted peace in parts of northwest Nigeria.
According to a statement issued by the military, the offensive began with a targeted engagement at Indulumu village, where troops encountered and neutralised two terrorists in intense gunfire. During the encounter, an AK‑47 rifle was recovered, dealing a blow to the extremists’ operational capability.
Pressing forward, soldiers advanced to Ruduno village, where they met further resistance. In fierce clashes, four additional terrorists were neutralised, and another AK‑47 rifle, a magazine loaded with 28 rounds of ammunition, and two motorcycles used for terrorist mobility were seized or destroyed.
Beyond the battlefield gains, troops recorded an important humanitarian success. As they swept deeper into the forest, they rescued a kidnapped underage girl, identified by authorities as Halira Ibrahim, ending her ordeal and returning hope to her family and community.
The statement highlighted that the operation also resulted in the destruction of multiple terrorist camps and life‑support structures in surrounding areas, including Magaji, Galakaje, Filinga, and Kukatara. These actions have significantly disrupted terrorists’ ability to sustain their operations by denying them safe havens and logistics support.
Military officials described the offensive as a demonstration of the troops’ unwavering commitment to protecting vulnerable citizens and combating the scourge of terrorism and kidnapping in the region. While sporadic attacks persist in parts of northwest Nigeria, authorities say such operations are critical to restoring lasting peace and security.
Local security analysts welcomed the rescue and tactical success but noted that continued coordinated actions involving intelligence sharing, community support, and infrastructural development are vital for long‑term stability in Zamfara and neighbouring states.
