Two Soldiers Killed in Bauchi Attack as Seven Bandits Are Neutralised
Two soldiers and a member of a local vigilante group have been confirmed dead following a violent attack by suspected bandits in a community in Bauchi State.
Security sources said the attack occurred when armed bandits reportedly stormed the area, prompting a swift response from troops and local security volunteers. A gun battle ensued between the attackers and the joint security team.
During the exchange, two military personnel and one vigilante operative were fatally wounded. However, security forces were able to repel the assault and reportedly neutralised seven of the attackers in the process.
Residents said the incident caused panic in the community, with many fleeing their homes as gunshots echoed through the area. Normal activities were temporarily disrupted as security operatives carried out clearance operations to ensure the attackers had been fully repelled.
Military authorities have yet to release an official statement detailing the exact location of the attack or the identities of the fallen personnel, pending notification of their families. However, security officials have reiterated their commitment to restoring peace and intensifying operations against banditry in the region.
Bauchi State, like several parts of northern Nigeria, has experienced recurring attacks linked to armed bandits and criminal groups targeting rural communities.
Community leaders have called for increased security presence and improved intelligence gathering to prevent future attacks. They also commended the bravery of the soldiers and vigilante members who confronted the attackers despite the risks.
