Awujale selection ruling houses warned
The Ijebu Traditional Council has cautioned ruling houses involved in the succession process for the next Awujale of Ijebuland against actions that could derail the selection.
In a statement issued after its meeting in Ijebu-Ode, the council urged all royal families to respect established traditions and avoid litigation or political interference that might disrupt the peaceful process.
According to the council, the selection of a new Awujale is a sacred duty that must be carried out with unity, transparency, and adherence to cultural values. The body warned that any attempt to manipulate the process could lead to divisions and undermine the stability of Ijebuland.
“We appeal to all ruling houses to cooperate with the kingmakers and allow the process to run smoothly. The stool of the Awujale is too important to be subjected to unnecessary disputes,” the statement read.
The call comes amid reports of disagreements among some ruling houses over eligibility claims. The council reassured indigenes that the transition will be guided strictly by custom and law.
