FG pension-support loan retirees
The Federal Government has introduced a new pension-support loan scheme aimed at easing financial hardships faced by retirees across the country.
According to officials, the initiative will provide pensioners with access to low-interest loans to meet urgent financial needs, including healthcare, housing, and family responsibilities. The scheme is designed to complement pension payments and reduce the pressure on retirees struggling with rising living costs.
The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) explained that the program will be implemented in collaboration with financial institutions to ensure transparency and sustainability. Beneficiaries will be eligible based on verified pension records, with repayment plans structured to avoid undue burden.
Government representatives said the move reflects President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to improving welfare for senior citizens, noting that many retirees face delays in accessing entitlements.
Pension unions have welcomed the initiative but urged authorities to also address systemic issues such as arrears and irregular disbursements. Analysts believe that if properly implemented, the scheme could restore dignity to Nigeria’s aging population and boost trust in the pension system.
