Bimbo Ademoye Laments Piracy After Man Allegedly Uploads Her Movie on YouTube and Gets It Demonetised
Nollywood actress Bimbo Ademoye has expressed deep frustration after discovering that her movie was allegedly pirated and uploaded on YouTube by an unidentified man, leading to the platform demonetising the content due to copyright violations.
Ademoye, who shared her concerns in an emotional post, explained that she had invested significant resources into producing and promoting the film. According to her, the movie was intended to be released on her official platform, where revenue from legitimate views would support her team, cast, and future productions.
However, she was shocked to learn that someone had illegally uploaded the full movie on YouTube without her approval. The unauthorized upload reportedly attracted a large number of views, prompting YouTube’s system to flag copyright issues and eventually demonetise the content. This means the actress is currently unable to earn revenue from her own intellectual property.
Ademoye described the incident as “heartbreaking,” emphasizing the amount of hard work, sleepless nights, and financial sacrifice that went into the project. She lamented that pirates often undermine the efforts of filmmakers, discourage investment, and make it difficult for creators to sustain quality productions.
She further noted that the individual responsible for the piracy did not only steal her work but also benefitted from it until YouTube took action. According to her, the person attempted to appeal the copyright strike, claiming ownership of the film, a move she found shocking and disrespectful.
The actress appealed to fans and the public to support creatives by avoiding pirated content and reporting unauthorized uploads. She stated that the recurring issue of piracy remains one of the biggest challenges facing the Nigerian film industry.
Industry colleagues, fans, and supporters have since taken to social media to express solidarity with her. Many described piracy as a destructive practice that threatens the growth of Nollywood and the livelihoods of actors, producers, and crew members.
Ademoye revealed that her team is working with YouTube to fully restore her rights and ensure all earnings are redirected back to her channel. She also hinted at exploring legal steps against the individual responsible for the unauthorized upload.
The actress urged filmmakers to be more vigilant in protecting their work and called on authorities and tech platforms to intensify efforts in combating digital piracy, which she says has become more rampant as more movies migrate to online streaming platforms.
