FG disbursed N192bn primary healthcare
The Federal Government has revealed that it has disbursed N192 billion since 2019 to improve and strengthen Nigeria’s primary healthcare system. The funds, channeled through the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF), are aimed at enhancing access to quality health services, particularly at the grassroots level.
According to officials, the disbursement has supported the upgrade of facilities, provision of essential medicines, and training of healthcare workers across various states. The initiative also targets improved maternal and child health outcomes, with a focus on rural and underserved communities.
Government representatives highlighted that the investment is part of broader reforms to achieve universal health coverage in Nigeria. They assured that transparency and accountability remain central to the disbursement process to ensure funds reach the intended beneficiaries.
Health experts have commended the effort but emphasized the need for consistent funding and strict monitoring to tackle gaps in service delivery. They added that stronger primary healthcare is vital to reducing pressure on tertiary hospitals and achieving better national health indicators.
