NANS warns NUPENG Dangote refinery
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has cautioned the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) against any action that could sabotage operations at the Dangote Refinery.
In a statement issued after its emergency meeting in Abuja, NANS said attempts to disrupt the refinery’s activities would be seen as economic sabotage, warning that students across the country would resist such moves.
“The Dangote Refinery is a national asset. Any attempt by NUPENG or its members to cripple its operations will be met with stiff opposition from Nigerian students,” the statement read.
The students’ body argued that the refinery has the potential to reduce fuel importation, stabilize prices, and create jobs, stressing that it must be protected from undue political or union interference.
The warning follows growing tension between NUPENG and the Federal Government over labor disputes in the oil sector. Reports suggest that the union may extend its agitation to private oil facilities if demands are not met.
Economic experts note that disruptions at the Dangote Refinery could have a ripple effect on fuel supply, inflation, and energy security.
