NDLEA Arrests Two Suspected Traffickers, Seizes 763 kg Skunk Cannabis in Edo
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested two suspected drug traffickers and seized a total of 763 kilograms of skunk cannabis in Edo State. The operation is part of the agency’s intensified pre‑Yuletide drug control efforts.
NDLEA’s Edo State Commander, Mitchell Ofoyeju, revealed that the first interception occurred on December 2, 2025, when operatives stopped two Honda Accord vehicles at Agho Forest in Akoko Edo Local Government Area. One vehicle contained 341 compressed packages weighing 217.5 kg. Its driver, 56‑year‑old Dada Adedara Babawibi, was arrested, while the driver of the second vehicle, carrying 361 packages weighing 230 kg, remains at large and is being pursued by the agency.
In a separate raid on December 4, 2025, agents arrested 36‑year‑old Stanley Obasuwa at a warehouse in the Isiefve community of Uhunwonde LGA. That operation yielded eight bags of cannabis sativa seeds weighing a total of 315.8 kg. Combined, the seized cannabis and seeds from both operations amount to 763.3 kg.
Commander Ofoyeju described the seizures as a significant blow to illicit drug trafficking ahead of the festive season. He reaffirmed NDLEA’s commitment to dismantling drug networks and urged the public to provide credible information to aid in the apprehension of additional suspects.
The arrests and seizures highlight the agency’s continued focus on combating drug-related crimes in Edo State and across Nigeria, ensuring public safety and reinforcing the fight against drug cartels.
