Actor Taye Arimoro Drags Peggy Ovire to Court, Seeks ₦100 Million for Alleged On-Set Assault
Nollywood actor Taye Arimoro has taken legal action against actress and producer Peggy Ovire, demanding ₦100 million over what he describes as a physical assault on a movie set. The dispute erupted after a shoot in Lagos allegedly went off-script, leading to a heated confrontation between Arimoro and Ovire’s crew.
According to Arimoro, the incident began when he tried to leave the set after his contracted time had ended. He claims Ovire ordered her driver to block his car, preventing his exit. He also alleges that his tyres were deflated during the standoff. In videos he shared, the actor shows visible injuries to his lips and gums, saying the altercation escalated into physical violence.
Arimoro says the ordeal was severe enough that he now needs dental care, and he is pursuing legal action to seek damages. He also pointed out that this was a deeply distressing experience that crossed the boundaries of professional conduct.
In her response, Peggy Ovire denied his allegations. She said Arimoro became aggressive first after being asked to shoot two short scenes before leaving. Ovire claimed he attacked her production manager and driver, and singled out his failure to mention key details, including his arrival time on set. She insists the confrontation was not unprovoked.
The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has strongly condemned the clash. The Guild labelled the incident “inhumane and degrading” and called for both parties to settle their differences professionally. It also announced that its national task force has launched a full investigation.
This case has stirred debate in the film industry about respect, power, and safety on set, especially when tensions arise around working conditions and contract terms.
