TUC demands reinstatement Dangote refinery workers
The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has called on the management of the Dangote Refinery to apologize and reinstate workers allegedly sacked for union activities.
TUC President, Festus Osifo, in a statement on Sunday, described the reported dismissals as “an attack on workers’ rights and freedom of association.”
“No employer, no matter how powerful, has the right to victimise workers for exercising their constitutional right to belong to a union,” Osifo said.
He warned that failure to reinstate the affected employees could trigger industrial actions across the oil and gas sector, adding that organized labour would resist any form of “modern-day slavery.”
The controversy comes amid heightened tension between oil unions and the refinery’s management, with the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) already threatening a nationwide strike.
Labour watchers say the standoff could disrupt fuel supply at a time Nigeria is battling high energy costs.
